Harmful Antidepressants Side Effects During Pregnancy (Celexa/Lexapro/Paxil/Prozac/Zoloft)

Levin Papantonio continues to evaluate cases involving the ingestion of Celexa, Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, or Zoloft during pregnancy and resulting in children born with a heart, skull, facial, limb, neural tube, or lung defects.

Until 2005, studies demonstrating an increased risk for these types of birth defects stemming from antidepressants during pregnancy went ignored by the manufacturers (Glaxo-SmithKline, Pfizer, Forest Labs, Eli Lilly, etc.).   Even today, only two SSRI antidepressant drug labels even mention first trimester injuries, and only one label shows a stronger pregnancy category warning consumers of the dangerous antidepressant side effects on a growing fetus.   Even moredamaging,  once consumers start on a prescription, they find it difficult to stop due to side-effects, including withdrawal symptoms.

As of today, all of these drugs, with the exception of Lexapro, are sold in a generic version, and each above-referenced parent company wholly owns its own generic manufacturing company (“brand -generic”).

Numerous lawsuits have been initiated against the majority of these manufacturers for both branded and generic antidepressants.   Last month, the Zoloft MDL was transferred to Judge Rufe in Pennsylvania.  Although there are no known MDL motions pending in the other litigations, there exists multiple coordinated state court actions in New York, Illinois, Missouri, and efforts are continuing in other state court jurisdictions.   Our firm, led by partner Kimberly Lambert, has filed lawsuits against a number of the above mentioned Defendants in both state and federal venues and we will be glad to assist you in any way we can.  If you would like to discuss these cases further, you may contact attorney Kimberly Lambert at klambert@levinlaw.com
