Levin Papantonio Attorneys Investigating Claims that Viagra Causes Blindness
Viagra was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1998. Levitra and Cialis were both approved in 2003. These drugs are designed to temporarily relieve men suffering from erectile dysfunction. These drugs work by dilating your arteries, which increases the flow of blood to the penis. As these drugs may have the same effect of blood flow to the optic nerve, new research indicates that Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis may have caused close to fifty cases of blindness.
Pfizer, the maker of Viagra, denies any possible link the impotence drug may have to blindness. Several vision experts disagree. Dr. Howard Pomeranz of the University of Minnesota has recently reported seven patients who reported NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy) vision loss occurring within 36 hours of a Viagra dose.
CBS News reports that Jimmy Grant used to take Viagra. He recalls experiencing pressure in his temples and color changes within 45 of taking Viagra. He is now blind. He blames his blindness on Viagra and recently filed suit against Pfizer.
It is estimated that over 32 million men worldwide have taken Viagra. While the FDA has 42 reports of blindness, these impotence drugs remain on the market. Cialis has already included a one-line warning on their inserts and representatives of Viagra are meeting with members of the FDA to discuss the risk of blindness.
The attorneys at Levin Papantonio are currently investigating claims that Viagra caused blindness.
