Accutane

Accutane is a drug that was developed by Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. for treating severe cystic (nodular) acne. Accutane was first developed as a chemotherapy for certain types of cancer. However, the inventors discovered that it was effective in treating severe acne as well. However, due to an aggressive marketing campaign by the manufacturer, Accutane was frequently prescribed for common acne. Accutane's manufacturer - known as Roche Pharmaceuticals and more simply as Roche - is a U.S. affiliate of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, a global healthcare company based in Basel, Switzerland, with worldwide sales of $23.4 billion U.S. dollars (2003).

Accutane is the brand name for the drug isotretinoin, which is also marketed under the names Roaccutane, Amnesteem, Claravis and Sotret. Known as a retinoid drug, Accutane is a synthetic form of Vitamin A and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1982.

While some users hail it as a miracle drug for treating severe disfiguring acne that will not respond to other treatments, Accutane has a number of Serious And Lethal Side Effects, including Birth Defects, IBD, Crohn's Disease, Colitis, and many other Accutane side effects.
